As marketers, we have a need to identify our target market. But how can we achieve this? There are different tools that can help in this task. Next, we will mention some tools that will help you to segment your target.

Google Analytics – Audience Tab and Acquisition Tab

In Google Analytics there are various tabs that will help you analyze your campaigns.

The audience tab looks specifically at characteristics of the audience. There, you can understand different demographic data of your audience such as age and gender. You can also know where they are from geographically. Among other characteristics are the interests of the audience and their lifestyle. For example, in the lifestyle you will find those who are pet lovers and those who love to cook. The purchase interests of users are also included. For example, an interest might be in buying products such as tablets (Kaplan, 2020).

The acquisition tab will help you identify the source of your traffic. Therefore, “you will find how your customers and web traffic were referred to your site (Kaplan, 2020).”

Facebook Business Page Insights

Another tool that serves to define your target market is the “Facebook Business Page Insights” tool. Currently, almost all social media have a special page for business. This tool is used to segment your target according to different characteristics such as age, region, profession, etc. You can identify how many people identify and like your page or the content you are presenting. Facebook Business Page Insights will help you better understand the target of your business.

Claritas Prizm

This software will help you identify the target you are interested in. “Claritas Prizm combines demographic, consumer behavior, and geographic data to help marketers find and engage their customers and prospects (Claritas Prizm, 2020).” Claritas Prizm “defines households with 68 demographically and behaviorally distinct segments discerning consumers’ likes, dislikes, lifestyles and purchase behaviors in a way that’s contextual and easy to communicate and activate (Claritas Prizm, 2020).” Features like income, education, lifestyle, and others are considered. Claritas also offers a free version that you can try by typing the zip code of the target you are interested in, but it is limited information. If you need more detail information, you will need to pay for it.

These are just some of several tools that can help you when you segment your target market.
